As previously mentioned, trust is key to enabling relationships. I am taking a look into corruption, and the abuse of power by public officials.

The above image comes from Transparency International’s 2021 Corruption Perception Index (CPI). The CPI takes 180 countries and gives each country a score out of 100 indicating perceived corruption. Africa is not looking too hot according to those numbers.

Botswana is the highest ranked country on the African mainland on this map with a score of 55/100 and ranked number 45 out of 180. Seychelles is the highest ranked African country at  23 out of 180 countries with a score of 70/100.

It would not be a shocker to see that the lower-ranked countries tend to correlate with abysmal rule of law and the concentration of power in the hands of the few well-connected and protected elites of their societies. It is important to know the recent events in some of these regions to understand how we got to where we are now.
